Vermicelli Upma | Semiya Upma | Vermicelli Recipe. Semiya upma is a popular South Indian breakfast made with Vermicelli. The recipe is prepared very similar to the traditional rava upma. Simple and delicious.

Vermicelli Upma 1

 1 cup Vermicilli
 2 Dried red chilli
 2 Green chilli chopped
 2 tsp Ginger chopped
 1 Onion chopped
 1 Tomato chopped
 ¼ cup Beans chopped
 ½ tsp Mustard seeds
 ½ tsp Urad dal
 A pinch of turmeric powder
 1 tsp Ghee
 2 tbsp Coconut grated
 Salt to taste

Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan. Add 1 cup vermicelli. Roast until it becomes slightly brown in color. Keep aside.

In the same pan pour 1 tsp oil add 1/2 tsp mustard seeds when they start to crackle, add 1/2 tsp urad dal and 2 dried red chilli.

Now add 2 tsp chopped ginger, 2 chopped green chilli, 1 chopped onion and 1 chopped tomato. Fry till they are translucent.

Add 1/4 cup chopped carrot and 1/4 cup chopped beans, fry again 3 to 4 min, then add 2 cups of water and a pinch of turmeric powder. Cook for 5 min.

To this add 1 cup fried vermicilli, salt to taste, stir together and let it cook for another 2 min or until the water evaporates.

Now add 2 tbsp grated coconut, mix carefully without mashing the vermicelli.

Vermicelli Upma ready to serve.
